TRICHY: The Air India flight IX613 from Trichy to Sharjah has landed safely. The plane, with 141 passengers on board, was successfully landed after circling in the sky for the past two hours. All the 141 passengers on board the plane are safe. Huge arrangements have been made at the Tiruchirappalli airport. As many as 20 ambulances have been kept on standby at the airport.
The flight took off at 5.40 pm and was scheduled to reach Sharjah at 8.20 pm. However, after taking off, the pilot realised the technical snag in the aircraft. With this, the plane flew back. The flight made a safe landing at the Tiruchirappalli airport at 8.10 pm. Heavy security arrangements were made at the airport. There was a lot of concern after reports emerged that there was a problem with the landing gear.
The airport authorities had arranged facilities similar to a red alert, even though they were hoping that the passengers would be able to get off safely. Due to a fault in the hydraulic system, it was attempted to land after bringing the fuel level below half. The flight flew in circles in the sky for two-and-a-half hours as part of this.
One of the options that was being considered was to attempt a belly landing, which would involve using the plane's bottom also known as the belly, as the primary landing device.
